KMEG and KPTH endorse a yes vote on the Hyperion rezoning issue in Union County, SD
May 27, 2008
"Our position is simple: we want to let the process work.
"If rezoning is approved by the voters, Hyperion Resources will still have to answer the tough questions as it goes through the process of getting local, state and federal permits. We don't support any shortcuts or special treatment for Hyperion Resources, and there are still major hurdles for the company. The proposed energy center may face several design changes to satisfy safety and environmental concerns. KMEG 14 and KPTH will be watching every step of the way.
"Any number of things might force Hyperion to abandon the project. But we don't believe the people of Union County should prevent the process from moving forward. The energy center project is needed to provide much needed economic stimulus.
"And as the price of oil approaches $150 a barrel we feel growing vulnerability because of our reliance on foreign oil. Let's be part of the solution. We have an opportunity to help meet America's demand for domestic transportation fuels and enhance America's energy security by reducing dependence on foreign oil.
"It all starts with a YES vote on Tuesday."
