Residents of Union County will receive an informational mailing
August 13, 2007

ELK POINT, South Dakota - Residents of Union County will receive an informational mailing from Hyperion Resources regarding the company’s proposed Hyperion Energy Center.

“Even though we’re early in the process, we fully understand that residents of Union County are eager to learn more about the Hyperion Energy Center,” said Preston Phillips, Hyperion’s Project Executive. “We believe this mailing will answer many of the questions being raised.”

The informational mailer gives an overview of the need for the center, which will include the first oil refinery built in the United States since 1976. It also addresses Hyperion’s commitment to constructing and operating the most environmentally sensitive refinery in the country, and notes that the plant will use an Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant and technology that uses synthetic gas (syngas) as a clean fuel source.

Phillips reiterated that Hyperion is in the site selection phase of the energy center project, and that other locations in the Midwest are being considered. However, with the recent attention given to the prospective location in Union County, the company decided to provide additional information to the people who live in that area.

Because a site for the facility has not yet been chosen, Phillips said it isn’t appropriate to comment on details such as design and engineering.  The best way to build and operate the safest, most environmentally sound energy center is to design each of its individual components for the specific site location, Phillips said. In addition, wherever the facility is sited, Hyperion has committed to working closely with the local community throughout Hyperion’s planning, construction and operation of the center.

Hyperion also has a website that gives additional information on the company and the proposed energy center, which can be accessed at http://www.hyperionec.com.
