Hyperion Commits to High Environmental Standards
July 5, 2007

Hyperion Resources is committed to building the most environmentally responsible energy center in the United States, including the first oil refinery built in this country since 1976. The Hyperion Energy Center will utilize Best Available Control Technologies and will be designed and operated at the most stringent environmental standards.

“We know that the Refinery Reform Campaign believe the industry as a whole has failed to clean up its act. We, too, believe it can and should do better. Our commitment with this project is that we will do better” said Project Executive Preston Phillips.
Once a final site is selected and Hyperion is prepared to apply for the proper permits and zoning changes, Hyperion will educate the public about its plans and fully disclose the details of its project. A robust public education and outreach plan will begin to help residents understand fully the nature and benefits of this project.

“The central question the community is asking itself at this point is, if South Dakota is chosen for the Hyperion Energy Center, can we properly balance our need for jobs and energy security with the confidence that this project will have no adverse impacts on the area? Under the auspices of the Clean Air Act, with the use of advanced emissions technologies, and world class environmental mitigation techniques we believe the answer to that question is yes”, said Preston Phillips.
