Members of the Union County Planning and Zoning Commission last night recommended a zoning change of 3,882 acres at the proposed Hyperion Energy Center site outside Elk Point. The parcel of land in Union County is currently zoned for agricultural use. If approved by the Union County Board of Commissioners, it will be rezoned for Planned Development and will continue to be considered as a possible site for the Energy Center.

The sponsor of what will be the cleanest oil refinery in the United States filed an application today for its air permit to be issued by the South Dakota Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR). Hyperion Resources’ application also includes a state-of-the-art power plant, which along with the refinery, constitutes the cornerstone of the Hyperion Energy Center.

Hyperion Resources has formally filed its application with Union County officials to change the zoning of property the company has secured near Elk Point. The zone change is necessary if the Hyperion Energy Center, including the cleanest refinery in the United States, is to be built in Union County. The application was filed earlier today.
