Public comment period helpful to Hyperion, DENR
Representatives with Hyperion say even though not everyone is in favor of the project, they enjoy the public commenting period of the process to get the air permits they need. Preston Phillips says, "The constructive criticism the discourse, the discussion that goes on only makes this project stronger and that's why we're a big believer in the public process." Even though the public process ended today, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources hasn't reached a decision. They'll meet May 19th, in Pierre, South Dakota, to hear sworn testimony from Hyperion, the South Dakota Attorney General's office and lawyers representing Save Union County regarding the air quality permit. Chuck Monson says, "There interesting, learned a lot, heard a lot, I've got about 5 pages of notes, with notes and questions that will hopefully be addressed during the hearing, or we'll ask about them, so it's good." The D.E.N.R.'s decision is expected sometime this summer. |
