A pro-Hyperion oil refinery group has gained enough signatures to put the issue to a vote.
J.B. Mercer, chairman of Citizens for Hyperion, said Wednesday that signed petition sheets will be submitted to the Union County auditor at 1 p.m. today. More than 470 signatures were needed.
Signatures will be handed in today so the issue can appear on the June 3 primary ballot, Mercer said.
"This is what Citizens for Hyperion and Hyperion officials have asked for all along, that the citizens of Union County be allowed to vote on this monumental and historical project," he said.
Supporters favor a referendum as one way to show how much support exists for the project and to move it along.
Opponents also want the issue to go to the people for a vote. |
