Hyperion Resources plans to put its proposed oil refinery to a vote in Union County, the company announced this evening.
Hyperion will present a rezoning request to the Union County Board of Commissioners Tuesday and plans to file the proposal after discussing it with officials at that meeting, the company said in a press release.
If the proposal is ultimately approved, they will seek a referendum in Union County.
“In the spirit of our corporate dedication to transparency, we think it is only responsible for us to encourage the residents of the county to make this decision,” Hyperion’s Project Executive Preston Phillips said in the release.
Phillips said officials with the company believe there is broad community support for the project and that it “will fare well in a referendum.”
“However, if the majority of voters in Union County do not want us here then we will surely find a home where we are welcome,” he said.
Phillips noted the recent votes of support from the Elk Point City Council, Vermillion Chamber of Commerce and the North Sioux City Economic Development Corp.
“There’s real momentum building,” he said. |
