NORTH SIOUX CITY -- The Dakota Valley Business Council Board of Directors announced today that its members unanimously support the Hyperion Energy Center proposed for southern Union County.

The HEC, a $10 billion project proposed by Hyperion Resources of Dallas, would include a 400,000-barrel-per-day oil refinery and would also generate some electricity.

"This project has significant economic potential for southeast South Dakota and the surrounding area," Greg Miner, DVBC president, said in a statement. "We are supportive of giving Hyperion the opportunity to build the environmentally-friendly energy center they propose and we are anxious to help facilitate if needed."

The council's announcement noted that Hyperion has pledged its planned refinery would be "state-of-the art," meet or exceed all environmental standards and that the company has demonstrated "a commitment to good corporate citizenship and community involvement."

The council board voted on the resolution Wednesday.
