J.L. "Corky" Frank, Project Executive

A seasoned veteran of the energy industry, Corky Frank has more than 40 years of upstream and downstream experience in domestic and international markets.  Having served as President of Marathon Ashland Petroleum, LLC; a company that was consistently the top performer in the refining and marketing industy as well as having one of the best safety records.  He also served as Executive Vice President of Marathon Oil where he oversaw regional and worldwide activities of refining, marketing, and transportation, he brings a wealth of insight to the management and execution of this project. Committed to furthering the future of the industry, he recently endowed a seminar series in petroleum engineering in the Dwight Look Collage of Engineering at Texas A&M University.  He was instrumental in establishing a chair at Texas A&M in Project Management and serves on the Dean of Engineering's Advisory Committee as Chairman and is also the on the Dean's Engineering Advisory Committee.  He also served as Chairman of the Board of Horizon Offshore Construction.

Preston Phillips, Project Executive

A member of the Hyperion team since 2002, Preston Phillips works on multiple investments opportunities for the firm.  His primary responsibilities at Hyperion include sourcing, evaluating, executing and managing project development activities.   Prior to joining Hyperion, Mr. Phillips was involved a variety of entrepreneurial activities including working for Sevin Rosen Funds in Dallas.  He also spent four years working for Texas Instruments in Marketing and Sales.  Mr. Phillips holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Humberto Vainieri, Executive Advisor, Refining Technology

Named the 1999 Refining Executive of the Year by World Refining Magazine, Humberto Vainieri has extensive executive and international experience including positions as Senior Vice President of R&D and Engineering at Yukos, President & CEO of UOP, as well as a 25-year tenure at BP. Most recently, Mr. Vainieri was an advisor to Reliance Industries, LTD., the company which built the world's largest grassroots refinery in Jamngar, India.  He also boasts an equally impressive academic record with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, where he is a member of the Engineering School Advisory Board.

Carl Clay, Executive Advisor, Logistics

The Team’s executive advisor in charge of logistics, Mr. Clay is a former President of Marathon Pipe Line Co. and Director of Transportation for Marathon Oil Co.  Carl has vast experience in both the operations and management of pipeline systems & assets and has served on the boards of TEPPCO, Colonial Pipeline Co.,  Cook Inlet Pipeline Co., Platte Pipeline Co., West Shore Pipe Line Co., LOOP, Explorer Pipeline Co. (2 years as Chairman), and Wolverine Pipe Line Co. He is a graduate of Ohio Northern University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. 

Dick White, Land Acquisition and Marketing

With a proven track record at overseeing a wide scope of challenges for Hyperion,  Dick White is the former Senior Vice President of Marketing for Marathon Oil, where he was Project Manager for Marathon’s Hilton Head Island development.  He also was in charge of overseeing the consolidation of six retail gasoline-convenience store chains into one, Speedway, which is one of the largest chains in the Midwest. His prominent past includes everything from serving as chairman of committees for the American Petroleum Institute (API) to being named the nation’s “Best Sixth Man” on the University of Indiana’s NCAA championship basketball team in 1953.
